| Mumbai, earlier known as Bombay is the largest city in India and the capital of Maharashtra. It is also one of India’s largest port cities and looms large as the country’s commercial capital. Mumbai’s Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport is India’s busiest airport and one of the main international gateways to the country. The airport is situated 28 km from the downtown and you can travel by local train, bus or taxi. It is recommended to take a prepaid coupon taxi from the taxi office to minimize hassle. If train is your choice, travel 1st class. There is a lot to see in this cosmopolitan city but typical tourist sights are concentrated in South Mumbai. Some of the most famous museum and art galleries in India are also found there. Mumbai is probably worth visiting just for its street markets, the hustle of vendors, and the madness of the crowds. |
