Lagos is the largest city in Nigeria. Lagos Murtala Muhammed International airport is situated in the suburb of Ikeja, 22 km northwest of the city. A highway links the airport with the city centre and the journey takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on the traffic. It is recommended to hire a car and a driver, usually available from the major hotels and the airport. There are a lot of great beaches to see if you make an effort to get outside like Badagari and also lots of markets to visit. An advice that we would give is that Lagos is not for the novice traveller since price negotiation is absolutely required and besides, having a personal contact is almost necessary to getting around. Travelling at night or in pre-light dawn is definitely not advised. Being relaxed, but eyes open, is the secret to Lagos – it is actually a fun city.
